Radiation Therapy

Radiation oncology is a branch of medicine specializing in the treatment of cancer with radiation. The physician who prescribes and cares for the radiation patient is called a radiation oncologist. Radiation works by focusing a beam of high-energy radiation or implanting radioactive sources in the area of tumor growth. Radiation therapy can be used alone or in combination with other treatment, such as surgery and/or chemotherapy. In other cases, radiation therapy is employed as a supportive measure to reduce pain, pressure, or bleeding. In addition, numerous benign tumors (non-cancerous) can be treated with radiation therapy. Our three radiation oncologists - Robert Goebel, M.D., Robert Isaak, M.D., and John Triantafyllos, M.D., work hard to educate patients and their families about the treatment process every step of the way.
