Skin Cancer
- Most skin cancers can be prevented by avoiding exposure to the sun, especially during the midday. Wear protective clothing - hats with brim, long-sleeved shirts - and use sunscreen of at least 15 SPF (Sun Protection Factor) on all exposed parts of the skin.
- If you have children, protect them from the sun and don't let them get sunburned.
- Examine your skin regularly and have a skin exam during your regular check-ups.
- The John Stoddard Cancer Center offers free skin cancer screenings during the month of May, which is Skin Cancer Awareness Month. The screenings are held on the 4th floor of the John Stoddard Cancer Center and are held during several evenings in May. For more information contact 515-241-4141.
