Thyroid
Thyroid cancer -- unlike many other cancers whose likelihood increases as one ages -- is found in every age group. Women are three times more likely to get this disease as compared to men.
Thyroid cancer shows up as a nodule. About 90 percent of thyroid nodules are benign adenomas or cysts. If they are small, your doctor may advise you to leave them alone. A large, unsightly cyst can be removed by suction with a needle. If a thyroid scan shows a nodule is cancer, the whole gland will be removed or treated with radiation therapy.
